I pods August 28, 2008

Olivia has a new routine for bedtime.  She sleeps in her I pods.  Not the kind you might be thinking, but her own invention.  One day she came down with a stretchy headband around her head which made her look like a 70’s tennis player.  That night when she went to bed, she pulled it over her eyes and called them her eye pods. Now she sleeps like that every night.  She said it closes her eyes and she can fall asleep faster.  Last night she asked her dad,”What is a real I pod?”

She offered Emma an eye pod, but Emma didn’t like it and wanted to wear it on her arm.  It’s her arm pod.  I need to do something before someone else thinks of the eyepod. Maybe that is how we can send them all to college 🙂

Yesterday a friend called and shared what she has been learning in our biblestudy and it was such an encouragement to me.  We are studying Joshua. It has been an encouragement as I see how God promised his people a land and that He promised that He would give them that land and be with them.  The first chapter of Joshua begins with the repetition of the phrase, “Be strong and courageous”  And the reason we can be strong and courageous is given in verse 9,”Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

I need that encouragement.  This has been a period of struggle for me.  Many areas of my life feel like they are not flowing easily, but are marked by struggle or frustration.  I need to know that in that struggle, there is a big God, a Sovereign God, and merciful God walking with me.  My friend encouraged me to personalize the scriptures in this week’s lesson and it was so powerful. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved me, even when I was dead in my trespasses, made me alive together with Christ- by grace I have been saved” Ephesians 2:4,5

And on the long days of childcare or weighloss or relationships, He reminds me,”For by grace I have been saved through faith. And this is not my own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that I may not boast.  For I am his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that I should walk in them.” Ephesians2:8-10

He already knew this season of life would look like this and He is with me while I walk in them.  Now, I will probably need to repeat that to myself all day 🙂

Funny thoughts from zellner kids August 20, 2008

There have been so many lately.  I am choosing three.

Olivia came home from school and told us they are learning about Noah’s ark in Bible class.  She loves Bible time and her teacher captures her attention so well.  Today, Olivia said, “My teacher said that they think that the ark is in ham- no wait Turkey.”

Emma has been singing songs from her Pre K class.  In the pick up line, she was singing, “Thank Gee The Lord, Alleluia” I tried to remind her it was “Praise Ye the Lord” – she has it memorized the other way and can’t seem to stop saying “thank gee”.

Her other song is just funny.  They are learning classroom rules and some have been put to song to help them remember.  Today she was belting out all over the house,” I can be quiet how bout you? I can be quiet how bout you? I can be quiet how bout you?”  I don’t think that she understands the message of that song 🙂

Memories… August 18, 2008

My mom brought three boxes of my keepsakes to our house last week.  They were filled with uniforms, costumes, letters, and pictures from so many different stages of life.  My girls tried on everything and we had a great time laughing and taking pictures.  Here are two pictures of the girls in one of my dance costumes from when I was in kindergarten…

Oscar the Grouch

Seems like there might be a correlation between Oscar being a Grouch and his love of trash.  I am testing my theory by watching my little guy, Cord.  He can be a real grouch.  He can let out a piercing scream when he doesn’t get his way and be very stubborn about continuing his fight.  Lately, he has also had a fascination with our trash can.  He can’t stop playing with it.  He loves to throw things away, which can be helpful-unless it is ALL my tupperware or ALL his blocks.  But today he bgean a new trick- Taking things out.  Gross.  He just took out an old corn on the cob. Yucks, as my mom would say.  Couple that with grumpiness when you tell him no, and it can be a real mess.  I like the days when Cord is less like Oscar the Grouch  and more like Elmo, the sweet, funny little guy 🙂

Cord goes to school August 14, 2008

Cord with his diaper bag full of food and diapers.

Cord was ready to go in and play with his friends.  When I picked him up, he had a checklist in his bag about his day.  Food: ate all of it!  Mood: playful .  No surprises there 🙂

And I cut the grass while he was in school!  It doesn’t look as good as when eric does it- But it’s done! yea!
