My calendar June 27, 2010

Many of you know I am obsessive about my calendar.  I have been using the same one for 6 years.  It is from the company familytime.mine (that is not their website~confusing!)  It is perfect for a mom…large enough to write in information on the weekly schedule, you get months at a glance, there are perforated grocery list for each week, it is an 18 month calender that is set to the school calender rather than a January start date, emergency info that you can put out for your babysitter.  I love it!

They only sell this fabulous, perfect, no-alternative-to-it calendar at Borders and on  I don’t have a Borders here in Huntsville, so last year I DROVE to Nashville to pick out the one I wanted.  I just couldn’t leave it to chance.  I had to see my choices in person, look at the covers, flip through the book.

This year, I got excited a little too early.  A friend of mine posted about getting hers soon and I couldn’t stand it any longer- I mean dates are coming in for the new school year.  I have stuff to write down! So, I went to their website  and looked at the options.  They have recycled a few of their previous covers.  I couldn’t repeat or I may cofuse myself, since I keep all of the old ones on hand to consult if I need to 🙂

I selected Ditzy Flowers, a pink happy-looking calendar, and waited for it to arrive.

It did. It’s small.   Not at all what I wanted. I should have driven to Nashville 😦

This little girl has hit 2 and is wearing us out! She is just so busy right now.  If it is silent, there is great trouble going on for sure!  The house is full of happy places to discover and messes to get in to.  She loves to sneak the toothpaste out of the bathroom and eat it~ ewww. She finds markers almost every day and gets to work creating a masterpiece.  She likes to use her food as art and she doesn’t like to wear her diaper during nap anymore.

A sweet girl in our youth group caught this picture of Lucy in our yard.  It is one of my favorites.  It reminds me that I really love this age.  Even though she can cause a lot of damage, she has a little spark in her that makes me laugh.  She has a very helpful partner in crime…

He is her best buddy and biggest nemesis! We are heading to Nashville for a week of General Assembly, a meeting of our denomination’s elders.  These two will need to have lots of play time outside to get good and worn out so we can make it through the week 🙂

Intown missions trip June 21, 2010

This past week, our youth group and some of their families spent the week investing in our city.  They began every morning by working at Lincoln Village.  This is an area of town that is in the process of being revitalized.  Some of our students worked in a community garden that is able to sustain the community.  The students weeded and picked beans in the heat of the morning.  Some of our students painted houses that are being restored.  Some of our students got to go to the Boys and Girls Club and spend time with the students.

The afternoons were spent at Madison Village, an assisted living home.  The students sat among the residents, made friendships, played BINGO, and shared their musical talent.  This was a big hit! We have been asked to return in July and hope to see some familiar faces when we go back.

Monday and Thursday nights were spent at The Manna House, a community food bank.  The director, Miss Fran, is an amazingly warm and inspiring woman.  The students worked hard for 4 hours and served over 850 people each night.  The needs are many right now, and the Manna House gives the needy food for each day.  It relies on donations and volunteers every time the doors are open.  This ministry worked its way into our kids’ hearts and I know many of them will return to work there again.

The week ended with a lock in…Yes, a stay-up-all-night, play-tons-of-games, eat-everything-in sight lock in 🙂  We had over 55 students join us for the night and it was a blast.  I was so thankful for AWESOME grandparents who kept our kids so that Eric and I could both lock in and then sleep it off the next day 🙂  We also had a couple of sweet youth parents who gave their night away too, and I was extremely grateful for the time we had with them.

At the end of the lock in, we were asked if we would ever do it again.  Immediately, I thought “This is like childbirth.  Yes, I will do it again…but not anytime soon 🙂 ” Give us a year and we will forget how tired we were!

The last birthday for awhile!

Olivia had a birthday- she turned 8. We celebrated by going to Point Mallard.  She wanted doughnuts for her birthday cake.  So easy and so good!

She asked for a pillow pet and was also thrilled to get to go to soccer camp.  She has turned into quite a little shopper! She loved getting to shop with gift cards from grandparents and she went on two shopping trips, one with my mom and one with my sister.  She loved her birthday!

On her actual birthday, Eric was in the middle of our intown youth and family missions trip, so Grammy and I took the kiddos out to eat.  Livy picked Zaxby’s…Yum!

I am so thankful for my big girl.  She is so eager to be in 3rd grade and is a huge help to me every day.  I am blessed to be her mom.

Lucy turns 2 June 8, 2010

Our baby turned 2 while we were at the beach.  She has changed so much lately…and looking back at this time last year, I am in amazement at how time passes!  Then…

I love this girl.  She is silly, messy, strong-willed, independent.  She is a risk taker and has a great sense of humor already.  She says,”No No No” when she doesn’t get her way.  She eats all the time- she always picks the messy food such as lasagna, taco meat, spaghetti, bean dips, enchiladas.  If it is plain, like pork chops or grilled chicken, she won’t touch it unless we can convince her to get all messy with ketchup 🙂

She gives great hugs and can say “sorry mommy” with the best of them.  She still carries her ridiculously long blanket, but she sleeps like a champ, so I am not getting rid of anything any time soon! I think our family has passed a mile stone.  No little babies in the house any more.  There seems to be a new season in our life now.   A little more freedom, a few more possibilites than before.

Beach vacation June 7, 2010

We just got back from a great vacation at the beach.  It was beautiful all week and we had so much fun.  We swam all day every day.

Lucy loved the water- I could not believe how willing she was to stay in the ocean, keep on her floaties, and jump in the pool.  These were all battles I thought we would be fighting and I was so surprised that it went so well.

The beach was beautiful.  I am so thankful that we were able to be there this week before anything hits the beaches. I cannot imagine what it may end up looking like after the oil hits it.  It is terribly sad and we tried to enjoy every day of what we were blessed to have.

We celebrated Lucy’s 2nd birthday at Red Robin at Pier Park.  She did great and we are feeling better and better about going out to eat with all of them 🙂  They slept better this year than in the past~ other than still being early risers 😦  Every year Eric and I say,”Next year they will be older and it will be so much easier.”  This year we actually felt like it had gotten a little easier! We have so much to be thankful for!
