far as the curse is found December 17, 2012

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

This week the impact of the curse on this world seems more easy to see than some weeks. Sickness, death, evil, destruction- grieving, letting go of a loved one, loneliness, confusion, fear…Thorns. Whether it was on a national scale such as the children and adults who were killed in Connecticut or on a local level such as the death of another church member this week, the evidence of the fall’s impact is obvious and real.

We need relief. We need restoration.  We need redemption. I am so thankful for this Advent season that constantly preaches that Immanuel is with us. He has come to make his blessings of salvation and peace flow as far as the curse is found. Are there effects of the fall still? Yes. Murder, death, illness, hurt, brokenness, cruelty, anger.  But He has come into this darkness and,”the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” Mt 4:16

We think of this sweet baby in a manger, we think of a silent night in which the baby made no cry.  But that night in Bethlehem ushered in more than that childlike scene- something powerful, something offensive rather than defensive. He came in to this world to break the curse as far as it was found.
