We had our first Lessons and Carols service last night at our church. It was so beautiful to see that traditional dark wood church with stain glass windows lit up with candlelight and red poinsettias. Mrs. Adams organized a wonderful soup supper afterward. We visited with our church family and were reminded of the many blessings that we have been given by this congregation. In a short time, the Lord has knit our hearts to this place and to these people.

Eric reminded us Sunday morning that Mary believed God’s words and remembered His track record of faithfulness to His people. See, she was both extraordinary and completely average. Never again will there be a woman who had the blessing of carrying Her Lord and Savior- she was completely unique and blessed.  Yet, she was a sinner- with original sin from birth as we all have and who needed a savior as we all do. So we can look at her response to God’s call on her life and learn from her. We can imitate her confidence in Him; we can confess our thankfulness and awe of Him as she did. We can rehearses His goodness when we are thrown into circumstances that confound us. We can trust in His character when we face something we have not experienced and we do not know how it will end. Eric’s message was extremely relevant to me.

Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart, and soul, and voice;
Now ye hear of endless bliss:
Joy! Joy!
Jesus Christ was born for this!
He hath ope’d the heav’nly door,
And man is blessed evermore.
Christ was born for this! Christ was born for this!

 Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart, and soul, and voice;
Now ye need not fear the grave:
Peace! Peace!
Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one, and calls you all,
To gain His everlasting hall:
Christ was born to save! Christ was born to save!
